Spirit Quest - The initiation of an Indian boy

Into the household of the siem, headman, of one of the villages was born a baby boy. He joined other sons and daughters of Sax ump ki, and his several wives. That boy, and his early life, is the subject of this book. He became the man we know as Cha it zit, chief of the Lummi people during the time of their first contact with white settlers.
Spirit Quest is not historical, in the white society's sense of the word, but it is in a way that The People would view it. There are no dates which are not important when one is considering concepts. The details are taken from stories told and re-told from one generation to the next.
The scenario is drawn from the value system of those people, from the ways they lived and believed. The narrative is fleshed out by a goodly use of imagination coupled with logic.
Spirit Quest is a fascinating journey into the ways of the ancient Lummi people, and more importantly of Chief Cha it zit. Carol Batdorf magically weaves the facts into an incredibly imaginative and interesting story about this historical native boy. Written from an Indian view point, the depth of this book is staggering, depicting the way events could have taken place.
