The concave portion of the curling rock. The rock rides on the edge of the cup, thus reducing the area of surface contact with the ice.


Figure 30 illustrates the sequence of events in the forward phase of the delivery. From the top of the backswing the pendular action of the rock initiates the forward motion. As the right leg leaves the hack it should be in a straight line.


A rock is placed in area 12. If the rock is struck out of the 12-foot circle and the played rock rests within the 8-foot circle, count 2 points; if the played rock stops in the 12-foot circle, count 1 point.
