Mousebirds in Aviculture - Added Photos


The most common Speckled race, or subspecies, found in the USA is shown in this photo. Note the bold white culmen, light facial skin, silver cheeks, yellow eye ring, and bright orange legs.


Blue-Naped - notice the tall crest, bright turquoise blue nape, the red facial skin, and red and black bill.


Mousebird chicks grow quickly. At three weeks old, this Speckled is feathered and almost weaned. Being handraised, he was pulled from the nest at seven days old and is fed a formula mixture and small chunks of fruit.
