Author Biography:

Daphne Sleigh was born in Surrey, England. She took her M.A. degree at Oxford University and was a librarian at the Royal Institute of British Architects before emigrating to Canada.. She now lives in a rural area of the Fraser Valley.
She first became fascinated by Canadian pioneer history as a result of the 1971 Centennial, and was soon involved as a part-author of a history of Maple Ridge. This led to her becoming the first curator of the Maple Ridge Museum for several years.
Since then, she has researched and written several books on Fraser Valley history, covering Harrison River and Lake, Harrison Hot Springs, Deroche, and Sumas Prairie. She has also written a biography of the Trethewey family, well known pioneer lumbermen and mine owners.
Her book on Deroche was awarded the 1984 Lieutenant-Governor's Medal by the BC Historical Federation.
