Warplanes to Alaska - Added Photos


Beech F-2s of the 1st Photographic Squadron surveyed the proposed Alaska Highway and provided photographs from which to create accurate aeronautical maps of northwestern Canada and Alaska. This F-2 flies over the rugged mountains near Mt. McKinley, AK.

A clever experiment in northern travel, this blend of airplane and snowmobile was tested at Ladd Field's Cold Weather Test and Proving Ground. November, 1942.
