This unspoiled wilderness along the British Columbia coast also produces a large variety of spectacular species. Here deer and beaver abound, the wolf howls from mountaintop to intertidal beaches. And, interestingly, as this area has a special population of white black bears, many of the gray wolves of this area are black!
The great forests of spruce, fir and cedar produce perfect salmon rivers. The abundant salmon nourish the bears, wolves, seals, killer whales and eagles that forage the adjacent waters. Many unique plants contribute to this lush rainforest.
On an isolated island off the wooded and misty northwest coast of BC lives the White Spirit Bear. Thousands of years ago, when the Ice Age ended, the glaciers retreated and trees filled the coastal valleys. The old-growth rainforest of Princess Royal Island and the surrounding mainland provide a wonderful and abundant habitat for the Spirit Bear. |
