We will consider other categories of non-fiction, but we do not accept or review any works of fiction.

HOW TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL

We prefer not to waste paper; therefore, initial queries should be made via email to submissions@hancockhouse.com and should include the following:

  • An outline of the work with total word count and the total number and type of images the work will include (e.g. photos, illustrations).
  • A short biography of the author (and artist, if the work is illustrated).
  • A table of contents listing all chapters and parts of the work, e.g. foreword, preface, introduction, bibliography, index. Please be aware that most Hancock House publications will require an index, which the author will be responsible for completing.
  • Three sample chapters, and, if possible, a sample of the images the work will include. A double-spaced WORD or PDF attachment is acceptable.

Please also indicate if this is an exclusive or multiple submission.

Do not send us any hard copy material or any original images unless spcifically requested to do so.  We will not be responsible for returning any unsolicited materials.

MANUSCRIPT REVIEW PROCESS

Proposals normally receive a response within three to six months; however, it is not unusual for the process to take longer. Please be aware that we receive many submissions and only a few are accepted for publication. If the manuscript is of interest, we will request a complete copy to review. We may also make suggestions as to how your manuscript can be changed to make it more publishable. Such preliminary indications of interest do not constitute a commitment to publish the work. Please do not call to ascertain the status of your proposal; we will contact you as appropriate

If Hancock House agrees to proceed with publishing the work, a formal contract will be signed by both parties. Most books are published within one to two years; however, the process can take up to five years in some cases.
